Kibera Black Stars assistant coach Edwin Lavatsa has identified key areas to be strengthened as the team fights to earn promotion to the FKF Premier League next season.
Stars beat Dimba Patriots 2-0 over the weekend to remain on course to earn promotion. The result came after a 1-1 tie away to Muhoroni Youth.
Despite the great form, Lavatsa says he still wants to strengthen the forward line and the left-back position and has already identified suitable players.
“We still need to strengthen the squad and ensure that we have enough depth to help us earn promotion. The areas we are looking to strengthen are the forward line, offensive and left-back positions.
We have already made contact with the players we need and we are just waiting for them to get their release letters so that we do everything by the book,” he said.
Having picked four points in the last two matches, Lavatsa says they have all the motivation they need to earn promotion for the first time ever.
“The four points give us plenty of motivation because first of all we went to Muhoroni Youth with the aim of getting one point and we achieved it.
Then we came back home and picked three points. Everything is working perfectly in aligning with our dream to earn promotion,” he said.
Speaking about their latest win, Lavatsa a former Gor Mahia forward said they won the game in the second half when they made a double substitution.
“Overall it was a good game but we were too casual in the first half but we still maintained. We were able to correct when we made the substitution played well and got all three points,” he said.
Lavatsa said the decision to press worked as it forced their opponents to play long balls.
“That (pressing) gave us an advantage and from it, we got a penalty and scored. After that penalty, our opponents opened up and we got the second goal.”
