Lautaro and Muller chase history as Bayern seek a comeback against Inter

Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 16.04.25. | 15:36

The Nerazzurri captain could become the first-ever Inter player to score in five consecutive UCL games, while the German could catch up to Messi in third place of the most capped UCL players list

Tonight's clash between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich (22.00) could be predestined for history. Will it be predestined for comebacks as well? We'll see in the end.

As for the history, two records could be on the line tonight - one to be broken and the other to be tied. Namely, the Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez netted in four consecutive Champions League games, and should he score tonight as well, he'd be the first-ever Inter player to accomplish that.

In addition, the Argentinian has found the net seven times in the ongoing UCL campaign and the club's leaders in the elite competition - Hernan Crespo (nine goals in 2002/2003) and Samuel Eto'o (eight goals in 2010/2011) - are not too far away.

On the other hand, the Bavarians also have a potential record-holder in their ranks. If Thomas Muller gets a chance tonight, he'll catch up to Lionel Messi in the third spot on the list of most capped UCL players with 163 appearances, and Iker Casillas (177) and Cristiano Ronaldo (183) would remain the only two players above the German.

Yet, both Lautaro and Muller would undoubtedly prefer their teams to qualify for the semi-finals rather than all these records, though the former has much better chances ahead of the return leg.

Inter triumphed 2-1 in Munich, and if they manage to defend their advantage at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, they'll schedule the semi-final clash against Barcelona. On the other hand, Bayern don't give up, although they'll have to attack from the first referee's whistle.

Surprisingly or not, Serge Gnabry appeared like an excellent offensive alternative for Vincent Kompany after his terrific display from the bench in Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund last Saturday. The German international could thus be a decent replacement for the injured Jamal Musiala and a good "wingman" to Harry Kane, who'll have to start using chances after wasting so many of them eight days ago at Allianz Arena.

In a duel between Simone Inzaghi and Vincent Kompany, only one can advance and take a (semi)final exam in front of "Professor" Hansi Flick. Ninety minutes (or more) at Meazza will tell who.
