Talanta Sports City is a brand new, ultra-modern legacy project being undertaken by the Government of Kenya (GoK) in readiness for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya, alongside neighbours Tanzania and Uganda, won the rights to host the 2027 AFCON as well as the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

To prepare for the two tournaments, Kenya embarked on upgrading Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium for CHAN, with Talanta joining the two for AFCON duty.

Works at the arena looked to have stalled, even though there was ongoing construction off the main facility to prepare materials for use in the stadium.

According to the latest detailed video of the facility and as posted on YouTube by Wanderlust, the roofing works at the stadium have resumed.

As of the latest update by Mozzart Sport, roofing works had stalled as the steel structures were being made on the ground before lifting, even as tower cranes were being positioned in readiness for the heavy lifting of the next phase.

According to the video, the steel wall in the facility is largely done and supported by the already done columns and slabs that will hold the roofing steel structures.

While most of the steel works are largely done on the ground before lifting, some steel structures, including steel brackets, are continuing to be installed across the facility.

The steel brackets are heavy and are lifted by the tower cranes. Once installed, they will provide the strength and base upon which other roofing steel materials will rest.

On the stands, the small remaining works that were pending on the main structures are now complete, including in the lower deck and are now just awaiting finishing.

The stands, especially the first and second tiers, will also house all the rooms and offices needed in the stadium, including the players' changing rooms.

As some other works stalled awaiting roofing, the partitioning and construction of rooms within the facility were ongoing.

In the second tier, which will house the VIP, VVIP and the lounge, partitioning is in advanced stages; in some areas, the construction looks complete, save for electrical works and finishing.

One of the major developments, as at the latest update by Wonderworks, involves electrical works. Some of the rooms being partitioned in the second tier have already been piped and only await power.

There are also ongoing electrical installations and cabling along the roof walls of the stadium

The facility, which will be ultramodern and include rooms to accommodate the latest technology, such as VAR, an Anti-doping room, a medical room, among others, will have many rooms worked on as soon as possible.

According to the video, there are ongoing works at the parking area. The levelling of the area is ongoing and is anticipated to accommodate at least 1,000 cars once complete.

From the entrance of the facility, the installation of cabros has already been done and is complete in some pathways. It is such cabros that will most likely cover the whole parking lot.

Talanta, whose construction started in March 2024, is expected to be completed by 31 December, with the whole project costing about Ksh45.3 billion.

Renowned China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) who are also behind the construction of the Nairobi Expressway, have promised that the facility will be completed on time and have employed workers on both day and night shifts.

The other two main stadiums in Kenya are ready and will host CHAN matches on Sunday, 3 August. Kenya will take on DR Congo from 1500 hrs at Kasarani, while Nyayo will play host to Morocco vs Angola from 1800 hrs.
