The controversial decision to stage the match between Villarreal and Barcelona in the United States could result in unprecedented action from players
Barcelona and Villarreal are against it, but as things stand, La Liga couldn't care less and is ready to proceed with the idea of staging the clash between the two sides in Miami at the end of December.
That controversial idea has sparked criticism among the players, who are considering protest action against it. According to Cadena Cope, the Spanish Players' Association (AFE) and the 20 La Liga clubs' captains are working on a potential protest against the Miami game for this weekend's fixtures.
Their information is that the players are furious with the way the Miami game has been arranged, and intend to show unity by not playing for the first 30 seconds of each game on Matchday 9.
This week, La Liga were due to meet with the AFE, but were unable to attend the meeting. The captains of La Liga's teams were due to meet with La Liga and the RFEF on Tuesday, but were only informed that it would not be taking place shortly before they were due to travel to Madrid.
On the other hand, La Liga explained they were willing to meet with the captains and offered to meet on three alternative dates, but could not attend the meeting on Tuesday due to scheduling conflicts.
