Former Gor Mahia forward speaks of his struggles that cut short his illustrious spell at the club.

Former Gor Mahia forward Nicholas Kipkirui has laid bare the challenges he faced at K’Ogalo before opting out of the club.

The 24-year-old left the reigning champions in the January transfer window and is waiting for a release letter from Gor Mahia to complete his transfer to an unnamed side.

After handing in a transfer request due to non-payment Kipkirui is set to be a free agent and can join any side on the Bosman rule.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Kipkirui opened up on the reason he decided to dump Gor Mahia after a two-year stint with the club.

“I left Gor Mahia because of non-payment, I am in Nairobi and sometimes I am left with nothing on my account and back at home people are asking for money which makes life difficult.”

“I had stayed for a number of months without payment, some months we used to paid half salary then Covid-19 happened which worsened the situation,” said Kipkirui.

According to reports, Tusker are leading the race to land the former Zoo FC forward with KCB, Nairobi City Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari also chasing his signature.

Kipkirui however remained tight-lipped on his next destination but revealed that he is no longer in pursuit of a club with a big reputation but where he will be assured of a salary at the end of the month.

“Right now I am not looking for a big team, I am looking for a club that I can get paid at the end of the month.”

“I am in talks with a number of clubs but I cannot reveal them because negotiations are still ongoing but soon I will join a team in the Premier League,” he added.

Kipkirui had scored a single goal for Gor Mahia in the league which came against Bandari FC but will be eager to rediscover the form that saw him plunder 13 goals before joining K’Ogalo.
