Wazito have managed to score fifteen goals in fifteen games, an average of only one goal per match

Wazito head coach Francis Kimanzi has expressed confidence in the team’s scoring department despite hints of struggling in front of goal since he took over the club at the start of the season.

Out of the fifteen games they have featured in in the current 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season, the club has managed to score fifteen goals, an average of exactly one goal per match. In those number of games, the club has managed to score three goals once, two goals four times, one goal four times and have failed to score in six different occasions.

In an interview on the club’s monthly magazine, the former Harambee Stars head coach cited a long term injury on one of his forwards forced him to rely on only one man upfront, Michael Owino, whom he praised for turning around his fortunes after a rather slow start.

“It is important not to lose sight of where the team has come from. When I came in, the team had no proven goal scorer despite a flurry of activity in the transfer market. After Ronald Omino suffered long-term injury, I had only one striker to work with. I’m so grateful to Michael Owino because he’s improved immensely on his fitness, confidence and goal-scoring compared to the condition he was in from the start. It shows with what you have, you can also get something. In my view, we have scored enough goals,” the coach is quoted as saying.

On the flipside, Wazito has only managed to keep five clean sheets in fifteen games, shipping in a total of fourteen goals. And Kimanzi, with all his experience in the game, knows that that is the most vital area his team needs to make significant improvements if they are to move further up the league standings.

“What we should be thinking about is the number of goals we’ve conceded. If we can improve on the number of clean sheets, then our goal difference would be up,” Kimanzi noted.

The Ricardo Badoer funded side is currently sixth on the log on 25 points, eleven points adrift log leading Tusker FC.
