Former Gor attacking midfielder hopes to come back in the next transfer window after failing to secure a good deal

After rejecting Gor Mahia’s proposal of spending yet another season in their youth team, Llyod Khavuchi has turned his focus on stabilizing and expanding his shoe business for the time he will be sidelined from competitive football.

The forward revealed that he elected to be a free agent after running down his contract at Gor and efforts to nail a place in the senior team hit a snag as the management and the technical bench were reluctant in promoting him to the senior team.

Khavuchi joined the junior team in 2018 after completing his studies at Chania Boys High School and had his dream of rubbing shoulders with the senior team members the following year when he was elevated.

The left footed attacker managed a handful of premier league appearances under coach Steven Polack in 2019 but was demoted to the youth team that featured in the division one last season.

The dreadlocked player said after his contract expired in July, the management expressed their wish of having him in the junior side for a second spell, a proposal that didn’t sit well with him as he had hopes of muscling for a place in the senior team.

His desire to impress coach Mark Harrison was granted during the pre-season but he says an ankle injury compelled him to sit out of the training drills at Camp Toyoyo grounds.

Khavuchi who will be eyeing comeback in the next transfer window says he will spend the next months in steadying his business that is still reeling from the effects of coronavirus.

I have decided to take a brief break from football as I intend to concentrate on my shoe business which has been doing badly from last year. I ran down my contract at Gor and in as much as I appreciate their efforts of retaining me in their youth team, I felt that I needed to fight for playing time in the senior team. Unfortunately, when the opportunity came to train with the big boys I suffered an ankle injury and ended up losing the opportunity,” he said.

Meanwhile, the forward says he also intends to use the break and work on his weak areas before the next window. He singled out his goal scoring instincts, weaker right foot and strength as some of the areas he will be hoping to improve from the daily evening training sessions.

He is currently featuring for non-league side Langata AllStars in the ongoing Patrick Oboya Cup and scored all the five goals as the team thrashed South City FC 5-1 yesterday.
