Kevin Juma was a second half substitute as Gor Mahia edged out Kakamega Homeboyz FC 4-2 on penalties in the Charity Shield played at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

The midfielder is amongst new faces at the defending Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions having signed a long term deal from Nzoia Sugar FC in the ongoing transfer window.

"It was a nice feeling being handed the opportunity," Juma told Mozzart Sport.

"I didn't feel any pressure because I had all the support I could get from my fellow teammates," the highly rated midfielder added.

Playing alongside Alpha Onyango and Austine Odhiambo and having the backing of familiar faces like his namesake Lawrence Juma and Ernest Wendo he said made his debut seamless.

"Those are experienced players, and some I've played alongside or against, so it wasn't difficult to settle in and give a good performance."

Gor Mahia scored through Boniface Omondi in the 61st minute, but Homeboyz found the leveler nine minutes later courtesy of Erick Ambunya.

In the penalty shootouts, K'Ogalo prevailed 4-2 to ensure they begin the new season with a trophy.

"Medals are not easy to come by, so I'm very happy with this, and more especially because it's my first senior medal," Juma, who hails from Bungoma said.

Not playing in the African Champions League as was expected he says is a disappointment, but not the end of the dream. "We can win the league again this year and feature next season, so all is not lost."

Juma's aim is to help the team win all competitions they will grace this year, and make a return to the Harambee Stars.

"I'm always available for national duty, so if the coach notices me, I'll be ready to serve my country."
