Kenyan international Jesse Jackson Were has reunited with nine-time Zambian champions Zesco United after agreeing on a year-long deal.

Were left Zesco in January 2022 for another Zambian Super League side Kansashi Dynamos but he has returned to the Ndola-based club.

In his first spell with Zesco, the forward won four league titles, two ABSA CUP Championships, and two Charity Shield honours

Zesco United is delighted to announce the return of the Kenyan International star striker and century goal top scorer Jesse Jackson Were from Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club,” announced the club.

Were who is commonly known as King Were in Zambian football circles first joined Zesco in 2016 on the back of being the Kenyan top scorer with 22 goals scored at Tusker.

He carried his goal-scoring form to the club, finding the back of the net in the league and establishing himself as a key player for Zega Mambo.

It is safe to say that Were wasn’t the sole Kenyan player donning the Zesco shirt in yesteryears when the club experienced huge success in domestic competitions and at the continental level.

At Zesco, Were shared the dressing room with former Harambee Stars assistant captain David ‘Calabar’ Owino and Stars defensive midfielder Anthony Akumu.

He also had the privilege of calling Stars goalkeeper Ian Otieno who is the current Zesco assistant captain teammate in his first spell at the club.

Striker John Makwata also had a brief spell with the club.

The former Mathare United star managed to score one hundred goals across all competitions in the five years he spent at Zesco before moving to Kansashi.

In total,Were scored 77 league goals for Zesco in his first stint, eight in the CAF Champions League, seven in the Confederation Cup, five in the ABSA Cup, and two in the Charity Shield Cup.

Were contributed significantly to Kansashi’s 7th position strong finish in the 2021/2022 league season and was club's top scorer after netting 8 goals and providing 6 assists for Mabanga Boys.
