Tanzanian Premier League outfit Singida Black Stars etched their name into the regional football history books on Monday, 14 September, after being crowned the new CECAFA Kagame Cup champions.
Singida-based side overcame Sudanese powerhouse Al Hilal SC 2-1 in a gripping final staged at the packed KMC Stadium, securing their maiden regional triumph and bringing the curtain down on an electrifying tournament.

At the heart of Singida’s victory was Zambian playmaker Clatous Chota Chama, whose brace proved decisive in a final that lived up to its billing.
The former Young Africans (Yanga) talisman struck the opener in the 21st minute, sending the home crowd into raptures.
But Al Hilal, true to their pedigree, clawed their way back into the contest ten minutes later when Abdelrazig Taha restored parity with a fine finish.
With the match finely poised and both sides displaying end-to-end attacking football, it was Chama again who rose to the occasion.
Two minutes shy of the hour mark, he struck a composed finish that restored Singida’s lead.
Despite a spirited late surge from Al Hilal, the Tanzanian side held their ground, repelling wave after wave of attacks to seal a historic 2-1 victory.
Singida's journey to glory was nothing short of remarkable.
Drawn in Group A, alongside reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police, Garde Cotes, and Ethiopian Coffee, Singida began their journey with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Ethiopian giants.
Their breakthrough came in the second group fixture, where they edged Kenya Police 2-1 in a tense affair.
Momentum carried them into their final group match, where they dispatched Garde Côtes 1-0 to top the pool with seven points, booking a semi-final slot.
In the last four, Singida faced a familiar opponent in KMC FC.
The hosts, buoyed by home support, were tipped to cause an upset, but Singida’s clinical edge shone through.
A commanding 2-0 win secured their passage to the final and set the stage for their clash with Al Hilal.
This year’s 47th edition of the Kagame Cup featured 12 teams, split into three groups of four.
From the pool stages, Singida, Al Hilal, and Rwanda’s APR FC progressed as group winners, while KMC advanced as the best runners-up.
Singida’s triumph resonated beyond Tanzania’s borders, carrying a distinct Kenyan flavour.
Among those celebrating were four Kenyans embedded in the club’s technical and playing unit.
Former Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma, now assistant coach at Singida, lifted his first Kagame Cup medal at club level.
Joining him was seasoned goalkeepers' trainer Lawrence Webo, once with AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars, alongside Muhubi Kanu, the club’s video analyst.
On the pitch, Kenyan forward Elvis Rupia, renowned for his scoring exploits in the FKF Premier League, also savoured continental silverware.
In addition to lifting the glittering Kagame Cup trophy, Singida Black Stars walked away with US$30,000 (approximately KSh 3.87 million) in prize money.
