Colorado Rapids II have two games left to the end of the season
Colorado Rapids II midfielder Philip Mayaka is looking to end the season with a flurry after a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Sporting Kansas City II in the Major Soccer League (MLS) Next Pro.
The defeat confirmed Rapids finishing out of the Playoff slots as they are currently rooted to the bottom of the log standings in the Frontier Division.
Rapids have two games left against Houston Dynamo II and Real Monarchs to try and eliminate the unwanted tag of finishing bottom in the table.
Mayaka emphasised on the importance of winning their remaining matches following the heavy defeat to Sporting Kansas City II on Monday.
“I think it is about winning the two remaining matches, especially the home game. We can't afford to lose it after losing 5-0. We have to show people that we are still good. I know it doesn't matter that we aren't going to the playoffs, but we still need the points,” the St. Anthony's Kitale alumnus is quoted as saying in the club's portal.
MLS Next Pro is a men's professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that comprises of 20 reserve sides for MLS clubs and the independent Rochester New York FC.
Mayaka noted that Rapids need to ascend the standings with improved performances in their remaining games to build momentum ahead of next season.
“We need to finish high on the table so that we can be ready for next year. I think the two games remaining are still important to us and we are going to win them,” added Mayaka.
