The pair add to the long list of players to have secured trials abroad from the club
Rainbow FC Kenyan duo of Manzur Okwaro and Linus Munyau are in France to undergo trials at French Ligue 1 side Nantes FC, the National Super League club has confirmed.
The pair, a central defender and an attacking midfielder, are the latest crop of players from Rainbow to earn moves out of the country. Following the departures of Faiz Ouma to Scotland for trials and Rooney Onyango to the United Arab Emirates with the Falcons, Onyango returned to the country and joined Gor Mahia.
Okwaro and Munyau have been with the club since their time in FKF Division Two, where they managed to earn promotion to the FKF Division One League and featured severally as the club earned promotion to the second tier from the third tier at their first time of asking last term.
Confirming their moves, the club expressed optimism that the players will flourish, having exhibited exceptional talent at the club.
“We are pleased to inform you that two of our athletes, Manzur Okwaro and Linus Munyau Herrera, have commenced their training with Nantes B', in France. Manzur and Herrera have exhibited remarkable talent, and we hold great optimism that they will leverage this opportunity to their fullest potential,” read a statement from the club posted on its social media handles.
In 2020, Munyau was among the Junior Stars who travelled to Kigali, Rwanda, for the CECAFA U17 Championship, where Kenya was bundled out of the group stage following a heavy defeat to Uganda and a draw to Ethiopia.
Before leaving for Nantes B, the two prominently featured for Rainbow during the preseason Elite Cup Tournament, although they got knocked out of the competition early and their start to life in the second tier has been full of inconsistent results.
Should the two be successful at the club, they will have a chance to develop their game at the club Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech turned out for a year between 2006 and 2007, making 32 appearances before making a switch to Auxerre in the same league.
