
Kenyan defender reveals how he joined Dutch giants PSV

Philipp Mwene has officially been unveiled by PSV.
Kenyan defender Philipp Mwene has revealed how he made the switch from Bundesliga regulars Mainz 05 to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
Mwene was officially unveiled by PSV ealier today after joining the club on the Bosman rule, signing a contract that will expire in mid-2024.
The 27-year-old revealed that PSV got in touch with his agent about a possible transfer and was impressed with the club’s lofty ambitions before putting pen to paper.
"PSV showed interest to my agent and I was like well, that is a big club but I did not think more about it then a few days later they sent the paperwork and I had to think maybe one or two days about it,"

"I was really in love with the whole idea of playing for PSV, playing for a big club, to play for titles and I think it's a big opportunity, it going to be a different kind of pressure to win titles and go far in Europe but I'm really looking forward to it," said Mwene.
The versatile defender who can either play on the right or left flank had a spectacular season with Mainz 05 scoring his maiden Bundesliga goal and chipped in with two assists including in the historic win over Bayern Munich.
Mwene has had a vast career, turning out for Austria Wien, VfB Stuttgart, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and since the 2018-2019 season he has been in the books of Mainz.
The defender was born to a Kenyan father and Austrian mother in Vienna, Austria and holds dual citizenship of Kenya and Austria.
PSV’s technical Director John de Jong has delighted by the inclusion of Mwene in the squad emphasizing his quality.
“When you put together a selection, you always look for a mix between talent, experience and specific qualities. Phillipp is a multifunctional player, who can play both right and left in defence and in midfield,”
“He played almost everything at Mainz last season and adds the opportunity to vary more to our squad. At 27, Phillipp is in the prime of his career and has shown that he can hold his own in one of the strongest competitions in Europe,” he said.
