Idah was to join the club last year but the post-election violence witnessed in the South African country made it impossible for him to fly out

Former Kenya U23 centre-back Sosthenes Idah was to join Mozambique side Clube Ferroviario de Lichinga in 2024 after parting ways with Nairobi City Stars following the expiry of his contract.

However, the 30-year-old was forced to shelve his travel arrangements and his bid to join the club thanks to the post-election violence witnessed in the southern African nation.

After several months in the waiting line, Idah sealed the move to the club three weeks ago, signing a six-month-long deal that will keep him at the Mozambique top-tier in the first leg.

The former Bandari FC star told Mozzart Sport that he was raring to go after settling in at his new workstation and kicking off the pre-season preparations with the rest of the Lichinga squad.

"I am delighted to have joined the Clube Ferroviario de Lichinga fraternity after months of waiting. I cannot wait for the new season to kick off next month and play competitive football again," he said in a telephone interview.

Idah, who highlighted the language barrier as the biggest challenge he was facing in Southeast Africa, revealed that he is open to renewing his deal if all goes well.

"They were willing to offer me a lengthy contract, but we settled for six months. We agreed to review the terms after the first leg and set whether we will agree on a possible extension," he stated.

For a player, who has played football in Sweden and Tanzania as well as a host of local clubs, he was largely expected to easily secure deals after running out of contract at City Stars.

He, however, says his eyes were fixed on playing football outside the Kenyan borders for the last time in his career, considering his age.

"I felt the deal was good. It also offers me an opportunity to play football outside Kenya for the last time as I am approaching my final years at the competitive level," said the 30-year-old.
