The Kenyan academy was the only one to pick at least a point from Portugal's Sporting CP on the opening day of the tournament as they held the Portuguese academy to a two-all draw

Legacy Academy, a Kenyan football academy based in Karura, Kiambu, posted mixed results on the first day of the Salt Mine Cup that kicked off on Saturday in Poland.

In the seven matches that the team played on Saturday, they managed to win one, draw three, and lose three to finish seventh on the eight-team group with six points, scoring eight goals and conceding 11.

They managed to hold Sporting CP to a two-all draw in the last match of the group, the best team from the opening day matches who only dropped points to the Kenyan side.

Legacy Academy will play placement matches on Sunday.

The glamarous annual tournament is famed for hosting junior sides of some of the best teams in the world with Liverpool, Sporting CP, Dinamo Zagreb, Banik Ostrava amongst others leading the list.

Legacy Academy beat various other academies in February to qualify for the Salt Mine Cup in 2022.

Founded by revered youth coach Stanley Okumbi who also serves as the Sporting Director, the academy trains at the Karura Forest football pitch along Limuru road.
