Kenya ranked 102 in final 2021 FIFA Rankings

Kenya will have to make do with a 102nd place finish in the FIFA Rankings for 2021 and hope for improved performance in 2022

Following improved performances in the dead rubber FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda, Harambee Stars scaled two places in November.

This is a position that Kenya has held in four other instances throughout the year, in April, May, September, November, and December.

Kenya's performance throughout the calendar year has been dismal, to say the least, moving from 104 to 102 and vice versa in different instances throughout the year.

In November, Kenya reclaimed the position they had held in the September rankings before dropping two places following their deflating back-to-back losses to Mali in the World Cup qualifiers.

Harambee Stars finished their disappointing 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifier campaign on a high by claiming their maiden victory after seeing off Rwanda 2-1 in Nairobi courtesy of goals from Michael Olunga and Richard Odada, coming on the back of a disappointing draw that Engin Firat’s charges will feel gutted for having let a win slip away at St. Mary’s Kitende Stadium in Entebbe, Uganda due to an 89th-minute howler from Brian Bwire that meant Stars had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Uganda continues to lead the CECAFA region and finishes the year positioned at 82 in the world.

Having secured a place in the World Cup Playoffs, Senegal still remains the best ranked African nation and ends the year positioned 20th in the World followed by Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia in that order as the only African teams in the top 30 in the world.

Winning the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 has seen Algeria leapfrog Tunisia into the third spot in Africa, making a three-place move in the world from 32 in November to end the year at 29.

In the global scene, Belgium ends the calendar year at the summit for the fourth year in a row, with Brazil and France completing the 2021 podium in that order.
