Former Liverpool, Barca and Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez is on the verge of joining South American giants River Plate

River Plate board reactivated professional drummers a couple of days ago to put an end to a relatively mild atmosphere in the stands of the legendary Monumental Stadium. They did their job just fine in the Lanus game on Saturday night, with River securing a 2-1 win, but it seems they should have stayed there for Monday's announcement.

As things stand, by the end of the day, River Plate will announce the signing of none other than Luis Suarez. The 35-year-old striker is a free agent, and his desire to engage in the Italian Serie A has reached the dead-end due to legal issues. That's why he turned to some other options on the market, and the Argentine powerhouse seems just like the proper destination for the Uruguyan veteran.

River have become a real option, so much so that the signing of the striker could be made official this very Monday.

According to Bruno Vain, 'Direct TV' journalist, the information about Suarez's signing came to him from "the best possible source".

If he ends up at El Monumental, the former Ajax, Liverpool, Barca and Atletico Madrid striker would be the natural replacement for Julian Alvarez, who left for Manchester City.

Moreover, Uruguayans are much respected among the River fanbase, especially after legendary Enzo Francescolli spent two illustrious spells at Monumental during the '80s and '90s, embellished with Copa Libertadores title 26 years ago.
