The title-chasing KCB and Posta Rangers have taken their battle off the pitch as the two sides are keen on acquiring Mathare United winger John Mwangi.

The attacking midfielder who is in the final months of his contract with the 2008 league champions has for long been linked with a move from the club that thrusted him to limelight.

Last year, the trio of KCB, Wazito and Bandari unsuccessfully tried to lure him to ditch the slum boys but the former national U20 midfielder looks set for greener pastures. Sources close to the player indicate that KCB head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno who has been trailing him for quite some time has once again expressed interests in his services.

Rangers on the other hand are reportedly set to meet the player before the week ends. Rangers have already acquired the duo of Patrick Otieno and Geoffrey Shiveka and at the same time released Josphat Lopaga and Dennis Oalo.

Mwangi commonly known as Mavado acknowledged that the two clubs were chasing his signature but remained tight lipped on his preferred choice.

Mwangi’s imminent exit will certainly come as a blow to the club that has grappling to keep its top flight status. Mathare are placed second from bottom with seven points, a tally similar to that of Vihiga Bullets garnered from sixteen rounds.

Meanwhile, Mathare are rumored to be eyeing immediate former Wazito assistant coach John Kamau to fill in the void left by Ezekiel Akwana who resigned last week.

Akwana called it a day citing frustrations emanating from lack of pay leaving his assistant Francis Xavier to take charge on interim basis.
