Nzoia custodian eyes return to starting team ahead of Mathare duel

Nzoia Sugar goalkeeper and assistant captain Humphrey Katasi says he ready for selection again after shedding weight.

The budding goalkeeper who is considered the first choice was benched for the experienced Benson Mangala when the sugar millers lost to AFC Leopards by a solitary goal last weekend at the Ruaraka grounds.

Katasi disclosed that he was overlooked in the match courtesy of the weight gained during the time sporting activities were suspended following a presidential decree aimed at taming the spread of coronavirus.

The former national U20 goalkeeper said he had added two kilograms during the break and hence was unfit to keep his place in the starting team.

"When we resumed training, I felt a little bit heavier and uncomfortable. I realized I weighed at 76 kilograms instead of the usual 74 and embarked on rediscovering my shape. I am glad that I am fit again and ready for duty after going through intense exercise in the past one week," he said.

The 22-year old who joined Nzoia while a student at the St. Anthonys Boys High School, Kitale said he was eyeing to return to action when they host the struggling Mathare United on Sunday at the Sudi Stadium.

Katasi observed that warming the bench gave him an opportunity to identify some of the repetitive mistakes in the defence line which they have been punished for in the previous rounds.

" I had played many matches and the decision by the coach to bench me gave another player the chance to play. I managed to note some of the common mistakes in the defence which have costs us maximum points. We are working on them ahead of the Mathare duel and the subsequent ones, " he added.
