Kenya’s disappointing campaign at the CAF African Schools Football Championship-CECAFA regional qualifiers in Uganda- has come to an end, with both the U15 boys and girls teams suffering elimination from the tournament.

The country’s junior teams were plagued by logistical challenges from the start.

Training together as a squad was minimal, selections were rushed, and the teams only arrived in Uganda on the morning of their opening matches after hours of bus travel.

Such chaotic preparations unsurprisingly impacted performances on the pitch.

A blame game quickly ensued between the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) and Football Kenya Federation (FKF), but the key takeaway is clear: inadequate preparation led to predictable results.

The boys team endured a harsh start, suffering a 7–0 loss to Uganda, before narrowly losing 2–1 to Burundi.

Their only victory came in the final game, a 3–0 win over Djibouti, which lifted them to third place in Group A with three points.

The girls had a slightly steadier outing. They began with a 0–0 draw against Rwanda, followed by a 0–2 defeat to Burundi, before ending their campaign on a high note with a 1–1 draw against hosts Uganda.

They also finished third in Group A with two points.

The semi-final slots in both categories went to Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Ethiopia. In the girls’ category, Uganda topped Group A, Burundi was second, while in Group B Tanzania finished first with Ethiopia second.

In the boys’ category, Uganda led Group A followed by Burundi, and in Group B, Ethiopia topped the group, with Tanzania in second.
