Kanyi faults squad depth for Thika Queens dip

Richard Kanyi has been on the touchline for Thika Queens since the exit of coach Joseph Oyoo as the Kenya Women Premier League (WPL) side struggles to find their footing in the league.

However, his short stint is set to come to an end after the side's away trip to Wadadia on Saturday 21 January. 

Kanyi has revealed that his was just a stand-in role as his former employer finds a new manager.

"If everything goes to plan, a new bench will be in place after the clash against Wadadia. I just came in to help with the transition," Kanyi revealed in an interview with Mozzart Sport. "I have been engaged elsewhere since leaving the club." 

Asked what has been the biggest challenge for the former champions who find themselves in unfamiliar territory after five matches, winning twice, Kanyi singled out squad depth.

"The team underwent some major changes in the lead up to the new season and that has affected performance. 

The squad still has good players but depth is equally important and with the exit of some key players, that was majorly impacted. They are on a journey to rebuild," Kanyi explained. 

Thika have lost their last two matches at home, first in a 1-2 outcome against third-placed Bunyore Starlets and a 0-3 thrashing by Ulinzi Starlets.
