Spurs lacked the big-club mentality, according to their former captain

Harry Kane has praised Bayern Munich's "top mentality" in what appears to be a subtle criticism of his former club Tottenham. He emphasized that at Bayern, there is an expectation to win every match, and he has experienced a successful beginning with the club, scoring three goals in three league matches since his move.

Spurs' legend completed a $107 million transfer to Bayern during the summer transfer window. As he prepares to lead England as captain against Ukraine in the Euro 2024 qualifier, he shared his thoughts on his first month with the Bundesliga powerhouse.

"We wanted to win at Spurs, but if you went a couple of games without winning it wasn't a disaster. At Bayern you have to win every game. After winning 3-1 and 4-0 in our first two games, there was talk about not being too happy about way we played! Top club mentality."

Kane, who despite becoming Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer, did not secure a major trophy during his time at the club, made the move to Bayern in search of more silverware.

The Bavarians boast an impressive domestic record in Germany, having clinched the Bundesliga title for the 11th consecutive season in May. However, Kane's debut for the Munich club was marred by a disappointing 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig. The former Spurs star came off the bench in the second half as Thomas Tuchel's side was eliminated from the German Cup.

Since then, Kane has made a positive impression in attack, scoring a goal against Werder Bremen and two goals against Augsburg, bringing his Bundesliga tally to three goals. Tottenham, who failed to qualify for European competition after finishing eighth in the previous season, have adapted well after Kane's departure. They have climbed to second place in the league standings behind Manchester City ahead of the international break.

New signing James Maddison and star forward Son Heung-min have taken on the goal-scoring responsibilities following Kane's exit. Son notably scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Burnley in a recent match.
