Kane chasing Lewa's record, Dortmund out of the title race with another loss

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 11.11.23. | 19:31

Bayern won 4-2 against Heidenheim while Borussia lost in Stuttgart

Everybody kind of knew that Harry Kane was gonna be successful in Munich, but nobody was quite sure how quick he would adapt to the life in Bundesliga. In all fairness, even the player himself would probably would be surprised if somebody told him that he will score 15 goals in the first 10 Bundesliga games, or 17 in his first 11 games, as he added two more today in a win over Heidenheim: 4-2. The England captain also equaled Bayern's great Gerd Müller's start in 1968/69, which means the pair now share the record for the best ever start to a season. The next one is Robert Lewandowski's all time record for goals in one season (41) which he achieved (and surpassed Muller) in 2020/21 season.

Kane's current average is brutal. He only needs 44 minutes for each goal in the Bundesliga. And considering the amount of minutes and games left until the end of the season, statisticians have calculated that the Englishman could score an unbelievable 64 goals at this pace. He improved his numbers even further after scoring two goals in the space of 30 minutes today. Things looked normal for the Bavarians, who led 2-0 and controlled the game until the visitors scored two goals in the space of three minutes, making it 2-2 in the 70th minute. But former Dortmund player Guerreiro netted the winner just two minutes later and Choupo-Moting made it final 4-2 five minutes from time.

In Stuttgart, the high flying hosts (third in Bundesliga) were on a two game loosing streak without their start striker Serhou Guirassy, but thanks to a Gregor Kobel meltdown, they came out with a victory, which probably ended Borussia's title challenge hopes. BVB were without a loss in Bundesliga until Bayern destroyed them last week 4-0 and with this second loss, they are currently eight points away from Bayern and seven from Bayer, who have a game in hand. Considering the strength and form of those teams, it's just too much.

It was former Stuttgart keeper Kobel who was the man of the match for all the wrong reasons. He brought down Undav in the 10th minute, but redemed himself when he saved Führich's penalty shot. He then saved two more chances before Füllkrug scored from Borussia's first shot of the match in the 35th minute. But the home team replied instantly as Undav equalized in the 42nd minute. Sabitzer came closest to scoring in the second half when he hit the woodwork half an hour before the end but that was all. Kobel made a foul in the penalty area again and this time it was Guirassy who scored after coming in as a sub and brought his team a much needed victory.
