After ending a 12-month-long goal drought, Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Estone Omengo has expressed his delight after finding the back of the net.

Omengo, known for his long-range strikes, fashionably ended his 12-month barren spell, hitting a sensational screamer in the 2-0 win over Mara Sugar FC to avenge the opening-day defeat to the league debutants.

The goal was Omengo's maiden in the FKF Premier League 2024/25 season after 19 rounds of play.

Before Saturday's goal, the former KCB midfielder scored a magnificent volley in February 2024 to inspire Homeboyz past his former side, the Bankers.

"Saturday's goal against Mara Sugar was one of my best career strikes. I am happy to end my long barren spell in a very memorable way," Omengo told Mozzart Sport.

Though not fancied to score often, the former Nzoia Sugar FC man hopes he can score a couple of goals and surpass last season's tally before the current campaign culminates.

Last season, Omengo managed three goals and a couple of assists against his name.

"I rarely do score, but moving forward and with 15 matches to play, hopefully, I can surpass my last season's numbers," he added.

Despite Homeboyz's recent impressive string of performances, Omengo downplayed AbanaBeingo's title chances but is banking on their current form to win as many matches as possible.

Homeboyz have been enjoying a nine-match unbeaten run where they have managed four wins and five draws.

The turnaround in performance has seen Homeboyz climb to the eighth spot on the log with 26 points and now sit eleven points behind table toppers Kenya Police FC.

"It is really early to talk about the title race. It is not yet done, but it is equally open to any side to challenge for it. We aim to bank on our current impressive form and win as many matches as possible, but one game at a time," he explained.
