Moses Shummah thought he had given his side a win, only for the offside flag to go up

Kakamega Homeboyz were left frustrated at the end of a barren draw against Gor Mahia after seeing their late goal controversially ruled out for offside.

Striker Moses Shummah thought he had given his side a crucial winner late in the second half, only for his goal to be chalked off, linesman Stephen Yiembe lifting his flag for what appeared as an incorrect decision on replay.

Shummah, who had also gone close to breaking the deadlock in the first half, was captured on Azam TV's freeze-frames to have stayed onside - and behind Gor Mahia defender Kennedy Onyango when he got onto a Ben Stanley cross from the right.

But as he slammed home and turned around to celebrate with the ball tucked under his shirt, the flag went up, much to his utter shock.

The decision came moments after Moses Mudavadi had also seen his strike disallowed by center referee Josephine Wanjiku following a foul in the buildup.

The two incidents sparked outrage from the Homeboyz bench, as the home team, which kept the defending champions at bay, felt undone by questionable calls from the officials.

Gor Mahia, who came into the game seeking to keep pace with the on-form duo of Tusker and Kenya Police, were meanwhile a shadow of themselves, rarely threatening goalkeeper Simon Masaka in the opposition box.

Homeboyz should have taken an early lead in the first half when Glen Otunga got himself in a favourable position to strike, only for his shot to trickle wide.

Pius Wangi also came close in the 20th minute, but his attempt came off the foot of the post with Kevin Omondi already beaten.

Shummah then headed an Eston Esiye corner kick wide, with his side's defense staying strong on the opposite end.

A nasty clash of heads between Joshua Onyango and Brian Eshihanda capped a fiery contest, with both men coming off in the dying minutes.

Homeboyz, with the point, moved up two places to ninth, while Gor Mahia rose to third place, but are now eight points off the top albeit with a game in hand.
