Juventus’ desperate hunt for a striker continues

Juventus has many strikers on their wishlist, but one currently stands out as the most likely signing

From Juventus' perspective, Jonathan David is the man... The primary attacking option for the upcoming season and beyond. While the Old Lady competes in the Club World Cup in Orlando, and David plays the Gold Cup for Canada in Houston, 2,000 kilometers away, the distance between them isn’t just physical. The main obstacle is a hefty agent’s fee of 15 million euros!

The future of Dusan Vlahovic in Turin remains uncertain, hinting either at a farewell to the Bianconeri or a stay until the summer of 2026, when his lucrative contract—the highest in Serie A—expires. His deal includes a net salary of 12 million euros per season, while David demands a fixed 6 million annually plus potential bonuses.

Negotiations with the Canadian started while Cristiano Giuntoli was sporting director, and were continued by the new director, Damien Comolli. However, the initial offer made to David’s agent proved symbolic, so they’ll need to find a way to reduce the agent’s demands to sign the player who reportedly has lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

Comolli’s wishlist includes many names: Chelsea has been contacted about Nicolas Jackson, and there are also Victor Osimhen, Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, and Santiago Castro from Bologna. Although Vlahovic earned a penalty and scored from the spot in the second-round win over Moroccan Wydad for a 4-1 victory, the moves Juventus is making clearly show they don’t plan to count on the Serbian striker next season.

David, who scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists last season for Lille across all competitions, wants to join Juventus, and the Bianconeri are very keen. It remains to be seen whether the two sides can overcome the obstacles and find common ground.
