French midfielder is no longer wanted in Turin – but who will take him?

Juventus will be like a big construction site in the coming months. With the title gone and even a Champions League spot not yet secured, the changes will be necessary. Although the season is not yet finished, there are plans for comings and goings – with reducing the wage bill proving a must in difficult circumstances.

French midfielder Adrien Rabiot is likely to be one of the first to be out the door. Les Bleus midfielder joined Juventus as a free agent in July 2019 after his Paris Saint-Germain contract had expired. An already established central midfielder and member of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning team, Rabiot was greeted as a top recruit in Italy. However, he never really managed to impress in his two seasons for the black and whites. Juve’s patience is out – and Rabiot will be too.

The 25-year-old has been offered to Everton and Barcelona recently, but Chelsea have emerged as the most likely takers. Managed by former Paris boss Thomas Tuchel, the Stamford Bridge club is seen as an ideal destination. The German coach is known to be a big fan of his former player. Apparently, Rabiot’s move away from PSG was not a decision made by Tuchel. They could be reunited later this year in London.

It would be an exciting prospect to pair Rabiot and N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge. It’s a midfield combo that’s already a proven hit for the France national team. Juventus won’t mind who takes Rabiot because their main goal is to get his $8.5 million per year wages off the bill. Also, whichever fee they receive, it would be welcome, considering that they’ve gotten Rabiot for free two years ago.
