Joseph Okumu’s Gent to meet Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht in Belgian Cup final

Having already secured their place in the Belgian Cup finals in stunning fashion, KAA Gent, home to Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu, are set to slug it out for the trophy against an RSC Anderlecht side that is currently coached by former Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany.

On Wednesday night, Gent overturned a 1-0 first leg deficit against reigning Belgian league champions Club Brugge as they recorded a 3-1 aggregate win to knock out the powerhouse as they advanced to the finals.

Anderlecht on the other hand emerged victorious after squaring it out against Eupen on Thursday night. It was everything to play for in the second leg tie between the two team’s as the first leg encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

However, Kompany’s charges managed to maintain their cool as they won 3-1 and advanced to the finals 5-3 on aggregate.

In making the finals, Kenyan international Okumu will be on course for his first title in Belgium barely one year since signing for the team back in June 2021 from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg.

The finals of the game will be played on 18th April 2022 at the Koning Boudewijnstadion in Brussels with winners of that Belgian Cup game getting a direct ticket to take part in next season’s UEFA Europa League

As things stand in the league, Anderlecht and Gent are only separated by three points after 29 matches as the sides sit in 4th and 5th respectively on the standings.
