Jonah Ayunga ruled out for the remainder of the season

Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga will miss the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that will see him out of action at least for six months, the club has confirmed.

St Mirren's manager Stephen Robinson delivered the news on Friday morning during a press conference but remained adamant that the Kenyan will receive the best care during and after treatment to get him back better and stronger.

The 25-year-old forward picked up the injury last weekend on Saturday in the 1-0 win over Motherwell where he had come on as a substitute.

"Jonah has done his cruciate knee ligament so he'll be out for a minimum of six months. He will have the best care here with Gerry Docherty and the medical team. We are planning when he will have that surgery now and we will get him back fitter and stronger than ever.

It is a huge blow for us. He was a big part of what we’d done earlier in the season. He was excellent when he came on against Motherwell so it is a big blow for the boy himself.

He is a strong boy, a strong character and he will come back stronger. He will spend a little bit of time with his family, we will start his rehab and, as I say, he will get the best rehab available with Gerry Docherty." the manager said.

On his part, Ayunga is gutted to be missing the second half of the campaign after a blistering start to life in Scotland but he is already looking forward to returning after overcoming his injury.

Since moving to Scotland before the start of the current season, he has scored a total of seven goals, three in the league where he has featured in 19 games and four in the League Cup in as many matches.
