They ended the competition unbeaten despite it being their debut appearance.

Tanzanian champions JKT Queens are the winners of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zone qualifiers after prevailing over Ethiopia’s CBE FC on post-match penalties (5-4) in a finals fixture played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda on Wednesday afternoon.

The win for the debutants, means that they will represent the CECAFA Zone at the CAF Women’s Champions League set to take place later this year in Cote d’Ivoire.

They also become the region's third representative following wins for Vihiga Queens and Simba Queens in the previous two editions

The win, which came down to the last kick from the spot after CBE FC had missed their fourth penalty, also meant that JKT Queens had prevailed through the entire tournament without a loss, having secured an 100% record in all their past games.

Going into the final, the Tanzanian representatives secured wins over AS Kigali Women, New Generation and Vihiga Queens in the group stage, before settling for a 3-1 victory over Burundi's Buja Queens in the edition’s first semifinal.

For CBE FC, who lost yet another final after succumbing to Vihiga Queens in 2021, they registered three wins against Yei Joint Stars, FAD FC and Buja Queens, drew with Kampala Queens 1-1 in the group stage, before rallying from a goal down to beat Charles Okere’s men 2-1 in the second semi final that went all the way to penalties.

In the third place playoff match played earlier in the day, Burundian side Buja Queens got the better of Vihiga Queens courtesy of a sole strike from Lydia Akoth in the 40th minute to finish in third, with the Kenyan champions ending up in fourth position.
