The Sugar millers will now take defending champions Kenya Police on Sunday at Dandora Stadium (1300 EAT)

FKF Premier League club Mara Sugar are into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup after seeing off third-tier Compel FC in a rescheduled Round of 16 fixture played at Moi Stadium, Kisumu on Wednesday, 21 May.

Edward Manoah's side, whose participation in the tournament had laid in the balance for more than two months, took an early lead, before scoring a late second to exert revenge on their opponents 2-0, setting up an all Premier League quarter-final contest with defending champions Kenya Police.

After seeing Joseph Okwenda miss a chance in the 14th minute, the superior hosts took the lead midway through the first half through Noah Jagongo, setting up a lead they never relinquished.

Compel, despite piling pressure for the larger part of the second half, could not find a way past Felix Adoyo in goal, and were made to pay for their wastefulness when Jagongo completed his brace with eight minutes remaining on the clock.

Compel, who were the lowest-ranked team still left in the competition, were seeking to do a repeat of their 2-0 victory over Mara Sugar at this stage of the competition last year, but it was not to be, their run to the quarter-finals in 2024 ultimately looking too good to be repeated twice.

Mara Sugar, who are just two points off the relegation places in the Premier League, will now look to cause a cup shock against on-form Kenya Police on Sunday 25 May at Dandora Stadium from 1300 EAT.

The winner of that last eight tie will then book a place in the semifinals, where giant-killers Nairobi United lay in wait. The date for that semifinal is not yet announced.

In the other semifinal, Gor Mahia will take on Murang'a Seal at Dandora Stadium from 1600 EAT.
