Drama at Old Trafford as Bailly believes he is disrespected by Solskjaer
Manchester United's proceeding to the quarterfinals of the Europa League saw Paul Pogba with a goal in his first match in the starting lineup after more than a month and a half break due to injury, and the echo of this triumph brought trouble to Old Trafford.
News are spread across the UK that Eric Bailly is angry with Ole Gunnar Solskjer for "disrespect", and the reason is that the Norwegian did not include him in the team for the second leg Europa League match against AC Milan. The Ivory Coast national player was not part of the expedition that traveled to Milan, and instead of Bailly, Red Devils captain Harry Maguire was partnered with the Swedish defender Victor Lindelof.
After the match with Milan, Bailly complained to the head coach that he felt undesirable in the team, and because of that he was allegedly ready to refuse the possibility to extend his contract with United for another year, which would keep him at the Theater of Dreams until the summer of 2023.
If this is really true, it means that Bailly would speed up the process of leaving the club with such reaction, because United would have practically only the upcoming next couple of transfer windows to earn something on his sale, ie for him not to leave as a free agent in a year and a half.
Bailly is mostly the third option behind Maguire and Lindelof this season, and he has only started seven games in the Premier League so far. Until the match with Milan, he was in the mood to discuss a one-year extension, but that is now unlikely. All of this contradicts recent statements by Solskjaer, who included the 26-year-old stopper in his plans for the future.
Since his arrival from Villarreal in 2016, he has recorded over 100 appearances in the Red Devil's shirt, which is not that much when you consider the number of games in one season. His time at Old Trafford was mostly spent recovering from numerous injuries. As a United player, he was listed as many as 16 times as if he was injured and in that period he missed 531 days of action or 93 games! He scored only one goal.
His eventual departure would only speed up United's purchase of a new stopper, and months ago, the name of Fiorentina's Nikola Milenković was brought into conversation regarding the Manchester giant.
