The Italian tactician got the 7 million euros compensation after a contract was terminated by mutual consent
Exodus has started in Inter: coach Antonio Conte has left the building. Just days after winning the title with Inter Milan, the Italian tactician decided to call it quits and he is now (again) in search for a new club, but with 7 million euros more in his pocket.
After a meeting with Inter president Stephen Zhang, reports began to surface that the Italian definitely decided to go, which means none of his requests were met. The clubs made it official on Wednesday afternoon.
„FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte for the termination of his contract by mutual consent. The Club would like to thank Antonio for the extraordinary work that he has done, culminating in Inter’s 19th top-flight title. Antonio Conte will forever remain a part of our Club’s history“ reads the statement.
The main problem was, as in most relationships – money. Conte wanted more money for transfers, or at least, if that was not possible, an assurance that the main core of players like Lautaro Martinez, Stefano de Fry, Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar will stay in the club. He got neither from Zhang.
The Chinese owner, already under financial pressure, want’s to reduce the wages by 20%, or to make players take a one month pay cut and to cash in on some of the big stars, and Conte was having none of it. The farewell was inevitable.
Conte won the Premier League (and left) Chelsea after one year and now is free again. And one man is already shaking hands: Barcelona president Juan Laporta. The Catalonians first man want’s to get rid of Ronald Koeman, but seems unable to find the right replacement. Conte, a man who wins titles could be the one. But he will face competition from Daniel Levy, the Spurs director, who is still looking to a new manager, and Conte, already a champion with Chelsea, fits the bill. And let's not forget that Real could also look for a coach, if Zinedine Zidane decides to leave...

On the other side, Inter also realized after the meeting that the departure is almost sure, so they already contacted Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi, whose contract with Lazio expires at the end of June. According to the reports, Inzaghi responded positively, stating that he is interested in taking over.
