Ben White is a Gunner! The transfer of the England defender from Brighton to Arsenal has been confirmed on Friday afternoon – kind of.

The completion of the transfer has been revealed when a photo of Ben White standing with a brand new Arsenal shirt with his new boss Mikel Arteta standing next to him. The transfer saga is done after a $70 million fee was agreed with the club from the south coast of England.

Around an hour later, both clubs have announced that the 23-year-old defender has indeed changed clubs.

Brighton has also inserted a sell-on clause for White, who featured in all but two of Graham Potter's side's games in the Premier League last season as the Seagulls avoided relegation with a 16th-placed finish. He contributed to Brighton having the joint-best defence in the bottom half of the Premier League last season with 46 goals conceded.

White did not play for Gareth Southgate's England side at the Euros as they reached the final but played in the two warm-up games against Austria and Romania before the start of the tournament.

White is Arteta's third signing of the transfer window following the arrivals of left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica and central midfielder Albert Sombi Lokonga from Anderlecht.
