It's a pity about Pity

Kevin Schade lives up to his surname

They say Nomen est omen, or the name is the sign. In the case of Kevin Schade, the old saying has once again proved to be true. The German international's surname translates to "pity" or "it's a shame" - and it really is.

Brentford's winger is set to spend months out of action because of the hip injury he sustained before Saturday's defeat against Everton. The club head coach, Thomas Frank told the press on Tuesday afternoon that Schade will undergo surgery by the end of the week.

"He will be out for months. It's a blow, of course it is. He's a player we have big expectations for, and he was starting to show some of his fantastic abilities with a goal against Crystal Palace. But this is football; this happens. There will be challenges that we have to work our way through, and we will do that."

He was initially included in the starting lineup for the match against Everton but experienced intense pain during the warm-up due to a left hip injury sustained during a shooting drill. He was replaced in the starting eleven by Keane Lewis-Potter, and Brentford suffered a meek 3-1 home loss to the Toffees, a team that had only earned one point from their first five matches.

Schade had previously spent the latter part of the last season on loan in West London before moving permanently from Freiburg earlier this year in a club-record transfer valued at approximately $24.5 million. The 21-year-old had played in all six of Brentford's matches this season before his injury and scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month. He had also received a call-up to the German national squad during the recent international break.

The need for surgery to treat Schade's injury remains uncertain. Still, the likelihood of him being sidelined for an extended period is a further setback for Thomas Frank, who is already grappling with numerous injury concerns.

Brentford is currently missing their star forward, Ivan Toney, for the first half of the season due to a ban, and recently, full-back Rico Henry was ruled out for the entire season with an ACL injury. Additionally, there are concerns about defender Ben Mee, who began the season on the sidelines and may be unavailable for up to four weeks due to the injury that kept him out of the Everton game. Playmaker Mikkel Damsgaard is also awaiting a new scan to diagnose his own hip issue, while midfielders Josh Dasilva and Shandon Baptiste are dealing with longer-term injuries.
