It took Seagulls 102 years to reach Europe, but they've finally done it

Brighton and Hove Albion beat Southampton to book their place in the Europa League next season

In theory, there's still a chance Aston Villa would manage to overcome a 16-goal margin in the ultimate two Premier League games, but the reality is - Brighton and Hove Albion will play in the Europa League next season for the first time in their 102-year-long history!

The Seagulls topped already-relegated Southampton 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, mostly thanks to Evan Ferguson's first-half brace. Pascal Gross wrapped up the game after Mohamed Elyounoussi brought some suspense to the match.

Exactly 40 years since their only major final appearance in the FA Cup when defeated by Manchester United, this was a historic day for a football club that avoided relegation from the football league on the final day of the 96/97 season with a 1-1 draw that sent Hereford down on goal difference.

Two and a half decades later, Roberto de Zerbi's slot is having the time of their lives and will represent England in Europe in a few months. Something that seemed like utopia, nothing more than a dream just a year or two ago.
