A year after their male colleagues lost to La Roja in the 2024 EURO, the Lionesses beat Spain on penalties and defended the Women's European Championship crown
The Three Lions have been waiting for a trophy since their 1966 World Cup victory. However, the Lionesses managed to bring honour to English football, as they won their second-ever Women's EURO title and defended the crown they clinched three years ago, beating Spain on penalties.

At the same time, the Lionesses took vengeance on La Roja for the loss in 2024 Men's EURO final, as well as the defeat they suffered in the 2023 Women's World Cup final.
England head coach Sarina Wiegman interestingly left her team's best player, Arsenal superstar Chloe Kelly, on the bench and was punished for that, as Spain used their dominance and awaited the break with a 1-0 lead, thanks to Mariona Caldentey's 25th-minute opener.
Kelly replaced Chelsea captain Reece James' sister, Lauren, already in the 41st minute and turned the tables shortly into the second half, assisting for Alessia Russo's leveller in the 57th minute.
Neither the remaining half an hour, nor the additional 30 minutes of extra time gave us the winner, so the penalty roulette was the one to decide.
Even though the shoot-out started better for Spain, which had the advantage after the opening series, La Roja's players missed the following three shots, while Kelly's decisive penalty brought England the 3-1 victory.
