Zoo head coach calls on troops to build on the slim win in their battle to survive the axe

Zoo FC head coach Herman Iswekha has called on his players to build on their 1-0 win over Vihiga United registered on Saturday in a bid to secure their top flight status . The Kericho based club finally won their first Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) duel of the season after edging the returnees by a solitary goal at the Green Stadium.

Prior to the match, Zoo's status in the league was under immense threat after going for eleven matches without a win, losing eight and sharing spoils thrice.

However, their fans have Alex Onchwari to thank as his second half goal ended their wait for their maiden win in the campaign.

Iswekha who is confident of keeping his slot in the elite football league in the country said the win will stimulate positive performances going forward.

" The pressure is now off our shoulders and we can now focus on remaining in the league. If we can get two wins this month then our fortunes and targets will change drastically. We played well against Vihiga and luck was on our side too even though we would have scored at least five goals," he said

Asked on his secret weapon unleashed in the match, Iswekha revealed that he was forced to switch from their traditional Tiqui-taca style of play to long balls.

" We normally play short passes but we had to resort to long balls for us to reach their box easily. The boys struggled to adapt in the opening minutes but it worked as the clock ticked," he disclosed

Meanwhile,Iswekha is hoping to put off Western Stima when they host them on Wednesday and gather steam in their push to unhook themselves from red zone.

Zoo sit at the rock bottom with six points, three shy of 2008 champions Mathare United who are above them

" We have no time to celebrate our first win for we have an important midweek game at home. It will be a tough one considering that Stima beat Wazito but that does scare us. Our focus remains the three points," he added

Zoo alongside Mathare began the season late owing to a broadcast row pitting them and FKF
