Agency confirms that club is still in their plans

There could be a ray of light at the end of the Ushuru's tunnel after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) reiterated its commitment to revive the club once the coronavirus dust settles down.

Ushuru who were plying their trade in the National Super League (NSL) went under late last year with their sponsor citing the adverse economic effects triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, KRA says the Ushuru chapter is not done and dusted as there will be a plan to bring the outfit which was formed in 2005 back to life after a successful bout with Covid-19.

Initially there were suggestions that the team was folded to pave way for a rugby team but the parastatal denied the existence of such plans.

"Resuscitation of the club will be considered in future as we wait for things to go back to normal," read a response from the agency.

Prior to the unfortunate collapse of the former top flight side, the playing unit and members of the technical bench claimed that they had gone for six months without pay but the agency has since settled the accrued amount owed to them.

" Due to tough economic conditions prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Ushuru FC was negatively affected similar to other teams in the Kenya Premier League and National Super League. Despite the economic challenges, KRA has paid all the players and technical team," read a confirmation from KRA.

A former player who spoke to Mozzartsport on a condition of anonymity corroborated KRA's statement saying they had received their dues.

"We were eventually paid what was rightfully owed to us. We thank KRA for keeping their word and hopefully they will bring the team back soon," he said.
