Yanga acquire the services of Mali national team goalkeeper Diarra on a two year contract

Record Tanzanian champions Yanga have strengthened their goalkeeping department following the acquisition of Mali national team goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.

The latter is reported to have signed a two-year contract with Yanga a development which leaves Kenyan international Farouk Shikalo weighing his options.

Shikalo has run out his two-year contract with the Jangwani Boys and the arrival of the Diarra leaves his future at the club hanging by a thread.

The former Bandari custodian arrived at Yanga in July 2019 shortly after the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations final in Egypt but took him a while to dislodge Metacha Mnata in between the sticks.

Metacha who arrived from Mbao FC had established himself as the first choice and would occasionally pave way for Faruk who was largely preferred in Cup tournaments to display his reflexes on league matches.

Farouk got a lifeline at Yanga when the management shipped in former Harambee Stars goalkeepers' trainer Razak Siwa to head the department in March.

Siwa who previously worked with Faruk at Bandari elevated the shot stopper to 'Yanga One' when Metacha was suspended for an ugly altercation with fans after the win over Ruvu Shooting back in June and would play almost all the remaining matches with youngster Ramadhan Kabwili getting a share of playing time.

The club has already parted ways with their skipper and Ghanaian centre back Lamine Moro, his counterpart Michael Sarpong and long serving Rwandese midfielder Haruna Niyonzima.

Diarra becomes the fourth signing as the club had earlier reunited with their forward Heritier Makambo who joined from relegated Zambian outfit Napsa Stars and had further acquired the services of Fiston Mayele and Yusuph Athuman
