Inter are facing their toughest opponent - Sassuolo

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 08.02.26. | 18:30

The Serie A team from Emilia defeated Inter 10 times

Believe it or not, Sassuolo have the most wins against Inter in Serie A — ten (the same number they have against Verona), along with two draws and 11 defeats. The team from Emilia has also taken all three points from the Nerazzurri in two of their last three meetings. There is another warning sign for Cristian Chivu’s men: Sassuolo have lost only twice in the last ten years when facing Inter in the so-called spring part of the season. Fabio Grosso’s side are also on the rise in terms of form, having followed up a seven-match winless run with two league victories. Domenico Berardi, Inter’s recurring nightmare, will be in Sassuolo’s starting lineup. The former Italy international usually delivers his best performances against the Nerazzurri.

Still, Inter remain the favourites, as the Nerazzurri have recorded the most wins across Europe’s top five leagues. After the defeat to Napoli at the “Maradona,” Inter went on a run of seven away victories in Serie A, conceding only two goals (against Verona and Genoa). Nemanja Matić, along with Luka Modrić, is the only player aged 37 or older to have played 20 or more matches in the “big five” leagues. Inter are relying primarily on their captain Lautaro Martínez, the top scorer in Serie A, and the rejuvenated Federico Dimarco, who leads the league in assists with eight passes that directly resulted in goals.

As mentioned, Inter cannot count on three of their five starting midfielders (Dumfries, Barella, Çalhanoglu), but Sassuolo also have two players in the “infirmary,” Turati and Boloca. Meanwhile, under the watchful eye of Inter’s duo Marotta–Ausilio will be Tarik Muharemović. The Sassuolo defender is one of Inter’s priorities for the next transfer window, as the experienced Acerbi and De Vrij are expected to leave Appiano Gentile.
