Macharia has commenced training with the rest of the squad after missing the last five games.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have been handed a shot in the arm after creative midfielder John Macharia commenced light training with the rest of the squad after missing out of action for the last five weeks owing to an ankle injury.

Since taking over at the club at the start of February, German tactician Andreas Spier, who replaced the sacked Mark Harrison, has not been able to field the dreadlocked midfielder and will certainly welcome his return to the team with options very limited at K’Ogalo due to the transfer ban currently imposed at the club.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the technically gifted player revealed that his journey to getting back to the team only started this past Friday after missing action in the last five games.

“I have not played for the last five games now due to an ankle injury sustained. All that is however behind me now as I commenced training over the past week and I expect to get back on the pitch soon,” the player said.

In his absence, the club has deployed Ugandan international Peter Lwasa in his stead, winning the last two games against Posta Rangers and Vihiga Bullets.

Lwasa’s presence against Posta helped the team back to winning ways after a three-match winless run as he scored one goal with Sammy Onyango and Sando Yangayay also getting on the scoresheet in the 3-1 victory.

The match against Bullets however failed to come to a fruitful end as chaos between fans and stewards spilt onto the pitch forcing the game to be abandoned halfway through.

Macharia will be hoping to be fit by the time the 19-time Kenyan champions travel to Mombasa to take on Bandari at the Mbaraki Grounds. The clash is scheduled for Sunday 27th February 2022, eleven days from now.
