A rejuvenated Tito Okello, who has found the back of the net an impressive five times in the last six matches, leaves Gor with only one fully established striker

Gor Mahia are set to miss out on the services of indefatigable lanky striker Tito Okello after the in-form striker confirmed his departure to join up with the South Sudan national team.

The striker was among a quartet of internationals that included Kariobangi Sharks defender John Kuol, Mathare United forward Dani Lual and AFC Leopards midfielder Saad Musa who were included in the South Sudan squad set to participate in the FIFA Arab World Cup Qatar 2021.

In the last six games both in the league and cup that Gor have featured in, a rejuvenated Okello has found the back of the net an impressive five times, his crucial goals helping Gor to vital wins against Sofapaka in a difficult away league match in Wundanyi before propelling the green army up to the quarter final stage of the Football Kenya Federation Cup following wins over Congo Boys, Cusco and Mara Sugar in the previous rounds respectively.

With the striker’s departure, Gor has been left short of cover with only Jules Ulimwengu being the only established striker remaining at the club after Brazilian import Wilson Silva left the country back in April following reports of money issues.

While it is not clear whether the trio from the other three clubs have already departed for official duty, Okello, in a post on his Twitter page, confirmed his momentary departure.

“Next destination is Juba to catch up with my teammates,” he posted on his social media.

The player departs from club duty after the South Sudan national team drafted a letter to the Football Kenya Federation requesting permission to grant the players a release back in May due to their engagement in an international tournament.

The national men's team will play the FIFA Arab World Cup Qatar 2021 in Doha with South Sudan taking on Jordan on 21st June 2021 as part of preparations for the event.

The forward’s absence comes at a critical time when Gor is preparing to take on Kariobangi Sharks in the cup competition that appears to be the team’s realistic chance of making it into continental football.
