German midfielder Christoph Kramer suffered a vicious head injury during the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Argentina that caused his short-term amnesia

Only minutes before the kick-off, a twist of fate gave him an unexpected chance to feature in the World Cup finals. Sami Khedira got injured in the preparations for the tie against Argentina, and Joachim Low's choice was none other than young Christoph Kramer.

Then 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player got his place in the midfield. It all seemed like a fairytale until the 15th minute of the game. Chasing the ball near Argentina's goal, he then faced a vicious tackle of Ezequiel Garay, who hit him with his body in the head. It was an instant knock-out for the young Kramer.

He was lying almost unconscious and soon received proper medical care on the pitch. Kramer continued to play, but what happened next was truly awkward. According to the game's first official, Nicola Rizzoli, Kramer approached him as many as three times to ask him if that really is the World Cup finals!?

It was obvious that he suffered a concussion, followed by some sort of short-term amnesia and wasn't able to continue the game. Germany went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to a late Mario Goetze extra-time goal, and Kramer celebrated along with his teammates, but still wasn't fully aware of his whereabouts.

Rizzoli's later statement led to many jokes on his account, especially from his teammates. Thomas Muller, Philip Lahm and Manuel Noyer even made a prank stating Kramer wasn't even aware who they were on the ground.

So much about that fate. Sometimes it gives you but akes away shortly after.
