Galatasaray boss aimed dig at former Fenerbahce manager

After getting another sack (this time in Turkey), Jose Mourinho again found a new job quickly. Just days after being let go by Fenerbahce, the Portuguese coach came back to Portugal. He signed for the first club he started his career in – Benfica, and tried to portrait himself as the new man. But his former bitter rival in Turkey doesn’t think so. In fact, Okan Buruk thinks that the former Real, Chelsea and Manchester United has regressed over the years.

I’m better today than I was before. I believe every coach gets better when they gather different experiences. The biggest difference I see in myself is that at the beginning I was perhaps more egocentric, and that’s no longer the case. Now I’m more altruistic. I feel like I’m in football to help others more than to help myself. I think more about the club and the fans than about myself” said Mourinho when he came back to Benfica.

But his nemesis from Turkish football Okan Buruk thinks differently. Galatasaray boss gave an interview for Athletic and devoted big chunk of the conversation to Mourinho.

He’s not focused like before. He doesn’t think about football like before. He has never changed his style as a coach. He is a really important character, he has really important charisma, but in terms of football, we have to upgrade ourselves every year. Maybe the problem for him is that he hasn’t upgraded himself as a coach” Buruk said.

The Galatasaray boss went on to gloat about his result against the former Chelsea manager as he went on and dominated the Turkish league despite Mourinho’s presence.

When he signed for Fenerbahce, he started to talk a lot. We know his style. He doesn’t just play inside the pitch. He wants to play outside the pitch too. He tried a lot of things, but in the end, we were better than him. I was better than him. We won the title against him. We beat them twice in their stadium. For this year, he will not be here, unfortunately. We were waiting for two more games against him” said Buruk.
