Iheanacho scores again as Leicester keeps the Champions League spot

Reading Time: 3min | Thu. 22.04.21. | 23:52

All three goals were scored in 13 minutes

Leicester missed the Champions League football in the last game of 2020/21 season and the Foxes are determened not to repeat that again. With a failure from last season in their minds, Leicester were concentrated and effective in a game with relegation strugglers WBA and continued their path to secure the third spot in the Premier League: 3-0.

Old wolf Sam Allardyce just can’t keep his team in the league. He lost too many winnable games and 5-2 against Chelsea was certainly a one off. The Foxes made sure they win their matches against inferior opposition and tonight they did it again. Jamie Vardy finally scored after two months, and Iheanacho is still red hot. Leicester finished the job in the space of 13 minutes, everything else after that looked like a training session.

The Nigerian had a fantastic chance at the beginning of the match, as he almost scored in the 3rd minute. Townsend made a poor error at the back, and Leicester striker was left all alone in front of Johnstone, who somehow managed to push him out wide before saving his shot. This should have been a goal. But unlike the Nigerian, other Leicester striker found the net in his first chance.

Jamie Vardy used an assist from Castagne and calmly sent the ball in top right corner for the lead. It was his first goal since February. But just two minutes later, it was already 2-0. Former WBA defender Johnny Evans scored against his own club after he was unmarked in the penalty area. It was his first goal since 2019. Two minutes later it should have been 3-0, but Castagne’s shot has hit the post. Iheanacho scored his eight goal in 11 matches after the assist from Vardy and left no doubt about the winner of this game, one hour before the game actually ended.

The second half was always gonna be difficult after a 3-0 score: West Bromwich players had to attack and try to score 3 goals, which was never gonna happen, while Leicester players didn’t want to go full strenght, but rather to keep their freshness for the future matches. The Foxes have tough games against Manchester City, Chelsea (twice) and Tottenhem, among others, on their way to the Champions League spot.
