Mauricio Pochettino has opened up about his spell at PSG, offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like managing Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe. Now in charge of the US national team, the Argentine coach shared his reflections in an interview with High Performance, highlighting the unique challenges of handling players whose global influence often eclipses that of the club itself.

According to Pochettino, the trio carried an extraordinary level of individual power and attention, with every coaching decision resonating far beyond the dressing room. His mission, he explained, was to maintain a sense of normality despite the exceptional circumstances surrounding such superstars.

The former Tottenham and Southampton boss was quick to stress that there were no disciplinary issues during his time in Paris, describing Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe as consummate professionals who always showed respect toward the coaching staff.

He also recalled a memorable moment involving Messi during a game against Lyon, when he chose to substitute the Argentine due to concerns over his knee. The decision didn’t sit well with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner at the time. "He was disappointed and told me: 'You have to ask me.'"

Pochettino added that Messi later returned, scored against Manchester City, and settled the matter in his own quiet way—by embracing his coach in the dressing room.
