The Manchester City manager is being linked with the Italian national team, which suffered embarrassment by once again failing to qualify for the World Cup
Reports suggest that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has emerged as a leading candidate to take over the Italy national team once his time at the Etihad comes to an end.
City haven’t always hit top form this season, but their recent results may signal a strong finish ahead. A Carabao Cup final triumph over Arsenal prior to the international break, followed by a dominant 4-0 FA Cup victory against Liverpool, could provide the momentum they’ve been searching for.

In the Premier League title race, City are currently nine points behind leaders Arsenal. However, they do have a game in hand and are set to host the Gunners later this month in what could prove to be a decisive clash.
Guardiola’s future in Manchester remains uncertain. Although he still has a year left on his contract, speculation continues to swirl. Speaking recently about his plans, he appeared to play down the idea of an imminent departure, saying: “Oh, everybody wants to fire me, right. Oh my god, guys. One day I will come here and say, ‘bye bye, guys’. I’m here, one more year of contract.”
Even so, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims he is a “sensational” option to succeed Gennaro Gattuso, who was recently dismissed. The report suggests that Italy are now leaning toward appointing a foreign coach, with Guardiola standing out as the primary target.
It further claims that he could walk away from City this summer without financial concerns, potentially taking on a new challenge backed by strong sponsorship support.
Still, not everyone is convinced a move is imminent. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano noted last month that City are awaiting Guardiola’s decision, emphasizing that the situation remains “still open.”
