Ibiza can wait: New Spurs defender cuts holiday short for Argentina's World Cup call-up

Marcos Senesi has just lived through the two greatest days of his professional career

Who wouldn't want to be Marcos Senesi these days?

Two days ago, he took a huge step forward in his career by joining Tottenham on a free transfer after four years at Bournemouth, and last night, another dream came true when Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni handed him a World Cup call-up!

After initially being in the preliminary squad, the 29-year-old didn't make the final cut. He used that time to finalize his move to North London and then headed to Ibiza for a vacation alongside his girlfriend and Bournemouth Women player Kelci Rose Bowers, when suddenly - the boss called.

Bowers immediately started recording, hoping to capture on video the call that could change everything. And in the end, she did, as Senesi was called up to replace the injured Leonardo Balerdi.

So, the defender's dream came true only five days before Argentina's opening game at the World Cup against Algeria. His holiday came to an abrupt end, but he definitely did not mind!

Senesi debuted for La Albiceleste in June 2022, but has made only three appearances so far. Still, his fantastic spell with Bournemouth reopened the door to the national team, and a World Cup appearance is merely the crowning achievement of an outstanding season in which the Cherries qualified for Europe for the first time in their history.

Now at Tottenham, he could raise his profile even further and strengthen his claim for a more prominent role with the national team, as he is expected to serve as backup to Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martinez, and Nicolas Otamendi in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
