The stylish player had netted four and assisted twice before sporting activities were suspended

Mathare United midfielder Daniel Otieno will only listen to offers once the club eases its relegation pressure and keeps its top-flight status.

Otieno has been arguably the best player in the Slum Boys side this season as he boasts of being involved in six out of the ten goals the club had managed before the league was put on hold.

Although Mathare had a false start of life in the season, the left-footed player stood out after scoring four and assisting twice in thirteen matches.

The impressive goal returns had begun catching the eyes of scouts with Nairobi City Stars said to be relentlessly chasing for his services, keen to bring him back to the Kawangware, a place he left four years ago.

However, Otieno who is christened as van Persie says he will only pursue greener pastures once the Mathare vessel stabilizes.

"I want to help Mathare remain in the league and possibly have a respectable finish in the league before listening to offers. It will be insensitive for me to run away just because my current employer is languishing deep into the red zone. I understand other clubs are interested in me but the focus is to help Mathare first, " he said.

Otieno who joined the Slum Boys in 2019 from Sony Sugar revealed his intentions of increasing his goal tally once the league matches restart.

The former Gor Mahia Youth player said he was looking forward to hitting at least ten goals and register as many assists as he could.

"We had a start to forget but that does not stop me from setting individual targets. I hope I will get at least six more goals and make more assists which I believe will go a long way in helping the club redeem itself," he added.
